Participants are allowed to wear a wetsuit as long as the water temperature is no higher than 83.9 degrees. To wear a wetsuit, you must register in the wetsuit division.

Register in the wetsuit division only if you definitely plan to wear a wetsuit. You will be timed and given overall and age-group results, but no awards are given in the wetsuit division.

We expect the water temperature to be around 78 degrees. Please understand that this is the average water temperature and can be different race day. We will post updated water temperatures as we get closer to race day.

In addition to discounted rates at area hotels, you also have camping options -- including an option for fundraisers to stay onsite at North Star Reach in a climate controlled cabin that sleeps up to 12 people. All of the details are on the Hotels & Lodging page.

Yes! You can stay at the nearby Bruin Lake Campground or -- if you raise enough money for North Star Reach -- you can "camp" onsite in a climate-controlled cabin that sleeps up to 12 people! Please see our Hotels & Lodging page for all the details.

Yes, all of our participants get a medal after crossing the finish line.

The event ends 6 hours after the 15K and 10K starts which are scheduled for 6:30 am.

5K swimmers must be finished 2 hours after race start.

10K swimmers must be to North Star Reach 2 hours after race start and must be finished 4 hours after race start.

15K swimmers must be to Half Moon Beach 2 hours after race start, back to North Star Reach 4 hours after race start, and must be finished 6 hours after race start.

Yes! Personal swim buoys/tow floats are allowed in all Epic Races open water swim events and triathlons. Many athletes choose to use them for added visibility, comfort, and confidence in the water.

Use of a personal swim buoy does not disqualify you from awards or official results.

You may defer your race up to the day before the event for a fee. All entry fees are non-refundable. That means that once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate.  Epic Races, in accordance with management executives, city officials, and local law enforcement has the authority to cancel any of the events for emergency purposes such as, but not limited to, inclement weather, threat of terrorism, or a pandemic. If such emergency conditions force cancelation, refunds, cannot be provided since funds will have been spent in preparation for race day.

However, if you purchased insurance during registration, and you cannot race because of one of their covered reasons, you may put in a claim for a full refund.

If we do find ourselves with extraordinary circumstances and do need to cancel, we will do our best to give you full value for your entry fee.  We will give you options which may include doing your race virtually, deferring to the following year, switching to another Epic Race, and in some cases we may be able to postpone the race.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds after you have registered for the event. We love what we do and what we do is put on events. After months and months of planning, coordinating and making our very best effort to create a race experience that we consider the best of the best, the last thing we ever want to do is cancel a race. We also understand that athletes devote a significant amount of their time, money and effort preparing for a race. If we need to make the difficult decision or are mandated to cancel,  it’s a great disappointment for us and we know it’s a great disappointment to you. Unfortunately, though, that is the risk we share. You may feel you are entitled to a full refund in this situation, but this is not feasible given the costs incurred by race day. At the time, your money is in the form of permits, police detail, medals, awards, T-shirts, food, salaries, rent, nonrefundable deposits for entertainment, and so much more. If you can’t accept the terms of this partnership, we respectfully ask that you don’t register for our events.

Yes. They should bring a copy of your registration and/or QR code that will be emailed the week of the race.

Headphones are not allowed in swim races.

After the race we welcome all finishers to grab their medal and enjoy the post-race party with their spectators. There will be a post-event food tent, where participants can get an amazing spread provided by EPIC Races. If any spectator would like to purchase a food ticket, they can do so at this tent as well. 

All virtual packets will be mailed within 3-5 days of the event to the address provided during registration. If you are a virtual participant you do not need to come to packet pick-up to get your items.
